A solid start to the week in Gaborone thanks to some action in Letshego, Sechaba and BIHL.
A very slow start to the week in Nairobi with not a single name breaking the $1m turnover mark, and as such, there is nothing to report on the activity front. On the news front, Vodafone announced that they will be selling their 35% stake in Safcom to their South African subsidiary Vodacom, in a deal worth $2.58bn.
Yet again MCBG dominates the market turnover stats. However, after its recent bull run the banking giant finally retreated and shed 2.0% to Rs240.00. SBMH closed unchanged at Rs7.60 after releasing 2017 Q1 results early in the morning.
A very impressive start to the week in Lagos from an activity view with a large cross in Zenith ($12.8m) relatively early getting things going. Elsewhere there was also some decent action in Access ($3.8m), GTB ($2.5m) and ETI ($2.3m). There was some profit taking in banking stocks with the sector closing -3.27% lower with losses in Zenith (-5.68%), GTB (-3.30%), Access (-2.91%) and ETI (-1.02%). Consumer stocks ended the day -3.66% lower on small volume.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
A rather muted day in Harare. The main action went through in Econet with about 2m shares trading at 21c.
